A1 hat switch

On a Gladiator EVO I swapped a hat button for the POV button in the A1 position on the grip per video. Using the VKB configuration software the A1 button is still recognized as a POV, not as discreet logical buttons. Also, the DCS flightsim does not accept clicks on the new A1 button.
Should the newly installed hat button in position A1 function as discreet logical buttons or will position A1 always be a POV albeit with a different input button?
Thanks

Press the Default button under Tools tab, then recalibrate.

Thank you, however
When I press 'default' the new hat switch does indeed activate discrete buttons, not POV. When I press 'calibrate' and calibrate the axes and then press 'end calibrate' the hat switch returns to POV. Is there something else I should be calibrating?
Additional info: when I press 'default' and the hat switch is acting as I wish, the top LEDs (large blue and small red) are on continuously, and, at the bottom, the red and blue lights are alternating. And DCS does not recognize the buttons even though the VKB software recognizes them.
Additional suggestions?

Sorry, should've mentioned it in previous post, there are a few steps that you should take in order for the device to get properly setup; please follow
the quick guide (you can of course skip calibrating the ministick as it's not there anymore).

Again, thank you. But I've not made progress.
Pressing 'default' does change the switch from POV to discrete buttons, but as soon as I take a next step, (pressing 'find & auto config' or calibrating) the switch reverts to POV and the LEDs change as described above.
I've tried to flash the firmware and perhaps this is a clue. When I activate ZBootloader and select the firmware, I select "Gladiator_NXT_v2_09_0.vkb" since that seems the best match. I don't see a choice for the EVO. After trying to flash with this firmware selected I get a message: "Found Boot Device: ZBoot NJoy32" and also "Device signature not correct-flash failed. Please check version of firmware for this device." The version of zBootloader is Z-Bootloader for "NJoy32 platform v1.95"
Any additional suggestions?

That is the wrong firmware; you don't need flashing anyway. What logical buttons are activated in tester when pressing the A1 HAT switch, after following the quick start procedure?

Down: 17
Up: 18
Left: 19
Right: 20
Depress: 34
How would I obtain the correct firmware if I needed to?

Buttons seems fine, what was the issue here?
The firmware is on the internal board and it can't get damaged or erased, don't worry about it. When a new firmware, with changes or new features will be available it will be made public.

So, if I press 'default' and then nothing else, the buttons work. The lights on the base keep flashing but I can live with that.
Thanks very much for your prompt help.

You really need to follow
these steps for it to work properly.

I did follow the steps on the video. Pressing "default" does assign the new switch to discrete buttons. However, if I continue on, as in the video, to the Global tab and press "Find and Auto Config" the switch reverts to a POV. Similarly, if I calibrate the stick (with or without pressing "Find and Auto Config"), as called for in the video, the switch reverts to controlling the POV icon on the Test tab.
Again, I want to thank you for your assistance.
