USB behavior NXT Throttle Quadrant Module

Postby MisteurJ » Thu Dec 02, 2021 17:30

Hi !

I just bought a NXT Quadrant Module.
As soon as I installed it (plugged in the computer with the GNX USB controller because I don't have a Gladiator, but a Kosmosima/Gunfighter MKIII), I upgraded firmware; now it's running on 2.088 (using _GNX_USB_Controller_v2.08.8 file).

The strange behavior happens each time I click on the "Default" button on the software : the controller disappears, and I have "USB device not recognized" window on the task bar.
The only thing I can do is resetting the computer; then it appears again, and I can calibrate it.

Another failure : when my controller is listed in the software "VKBSim NXT XT v2.088", if I click on "Find & Show" button on the NXT MODULES part, I got a "!!! Failed !!!" error, light goes off on the quadrant, and nothing moves on the Axes1 tab. When I relaunch the soft, I got a "Error read CPUID" message, and my Quadrant is listed as "v2.088 Lite"...
When resetting the PC, all's good.

I have several USB peripherals, I don't have any issue.
I tried to plug my Quadrant on different USB ports, same thing happens.
It works well with my Gunfighter joy, i.e. I want to calbrate it.

Is the HID module broken ?

Thanks a lot !

Seems like a background running software is blocking VKB native software. Kill some of those programs, especially things like Aorus, Razer, Corsair, Logitech etc and try again. You could also set up both VKBDevCfg and zBootloader to run as Admin.

No luck so far, tried to kill every background running apps (I only had the Logitech Hub), but same behavior : as soon as I click on "Default" button, or "Restart" one, I can hear the Windows USB disconnection chime, but it doesn't appears anymore, and the USB error comes.
I also tried the configurator in admin mode, same.

Which makes me think it's a hardware failure is the fact my Gunfighter does not have this problem at all, it works as expected.

Ok, I figured out what's wrong :

I tried another USB port, an USB3 one on the front panel of the case, and it works flawlessly !
I thought all these peripherals were USB2 compatible...
Do that mean I need to avoid USB2 ports ?
Perhaps there's a "trick" in the BIOS ?

Now I understand why my Gunfighter works well, it's connected on this front USB3 port usually...

None of VKB devices requires USB3 ports, must be something set up differently for your ports.
Thanks for the update, maybe it will help someone with the same issue.

Hi,

So I did some tests :
On my motherboard (Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite v2), using the internal USB2 headers leads to this strange behavior; Using every other ports of the motherboard, on backplate or via headers is ok (including the 2 USB2 backplate ports, where you usually plug mouse and keyboard).
I don't know if it's related to this specific MB only, but there's clearly an issue beetween those USB2 internal ports and VKB NXT Quadrant (although I used these headers with two Saitek/Logitech Flight Panels without issues).
The motherboard runs on the very last Gigabyte bios.

FWIW, I've had issues like this before too, with other devices.

1. Plug direct to back panel - always works
2. Plug to hub plugged to back panel - almost always works
3. Plug to 1m extension cable plugged to back panel - almost always works
4. Plug to front panel (which is connected via headers) - works about half the time

The front panel just seems to be hit or miss, depending on cable routing / motherboard / front panel component quality / etc.
