NXT Deadzone/Input Lag? Elite Dangerous
Hello all,
This is my first VKB flight stick so I’m still unfamiliar with a lot of what these products offer. I just recently received my NXT Gladiator yesterday. After an exhausting 6+ hours of trying to calibrate, flash, switch out springs, etc. I can’t seem to get the stick to register small inputs for the yaw, roll, and pitch axis’.
I’ve tried the three button press, using the software to lower the deadzone and play with the curve, and everything in between and I can’t seem to get the stick to react the way I want. It honestly feels like huge amounts of input lag and the slightest movement of the stick is not detected. It feels like a massive deadzone issue and it’s really causing frustration.
Is this how the stick is supposed to perform? I’ve upgraded from a Thrustmaster PS4 HOTAS and to be honest this feels like a huge downgrade in performance which is insane to think about considering this flight stick is 3x more expensive and doesn’t come with a throttle.
Does anyone have suggestions for me? Am I doing something wrong? Is the calibration off in some way?
How would I use the software to make sure things are set up to be reactive to smaller inputs in yaw, pitch, and roll?
I don’t want to return this stick because it feels amazing but I can’t fathom this type of performance. It’s extremely sluggish and doesn’t react to the input.
Thanks for your help in advance. It’s much appreciated!

That's definitely not the way it should work. What software did you used to calibrate it?
Please post a screenshot in VKBDevCfg with Profile/Axes/Physical and Logical Axes.

So I think what happened is I flashed the wrong file (_Gladiator_NXT_v2_02_5.vkb)...I used VKBDevCfg-C to calibrate and flashed the aforementioned file through ZBootrloader-C

Your joystick is uncalibrated, that's why it acts like that. In order to calibrate it do the following:
- at the same stage as pic1 click on the Test tab in the lower side, then on the Axes tab (you should see some sliders aligned on the active chart);
- click mouse on the Start Calibr. button and move your joystick along all its axes: pitch (up and down), roll (left and right), yaw (twist it left and right), minithrottle up and down; then click on the center button of the ministick and when the red LED on the grip turns on start moving the ministick left right and up down (the ministick part is only if you have the Premium version; if you have the Standard version you could skip it);
- when moving the joystick do it slowly, covering the full range of the axes, a few times back and forth; the sliders on the screen should follow the action;
- when done press the End Calibr. button and you're good to go.
If you find it easier you could do the cold calibration; to get into calibration mode you'll have to press the F buttons within 10 seconds after you connected your joystick to the computer.
If you want to set up curves (not advisable without a bit of using the joystick in its default stage) see this tut.

Awesome - thanks for this - I calibrated it over and over but I guess it didnt save? It does seem to still have a pretty wide dead zone but its definitely better. Is there any way to get the throttle to work?

I'm still having a pretty hard time with minor movements...

I can tell you that it is definitely much much better but it still feels a little twitchy like the stick is overcorrecting/tiny bit of input lag its kind of strange

Something's wrong. Press the Tools tab and click on the big square Default button; when joystick restarts run the calibration process again, step by step, as above.
Re: NXT Deadzone/Input Lag? Elite Dangerous
Does this look better? I really appreciate your help man.
Re: NXT Deadzone/Input Lag? Elite Dangerous
I can still confirm - it is still super bad...the dead zone is massive and over correcting and I have no fine control of roll, pitch, and yaw...im confused man
Re: NXT Deadzone/Input Lag? Elite Dangerous
Any movement within a small circle closest to the base of the stick does not register any movements...i push the stick down and nothing until it hits a certain point...same with pulling back and rolling...I've tried lowering the deadzone and its still bad and the deadzone on the game is also as low as it can possibly go

Re: NXT Deadzone/Input Lag? Elite Dangerous
The latest screenshots look way better. When you say the joystick acts up are you referring to the game or tester? First, you should try it in tester - if the slider moves nicely together with the joystick then all's fine with the joystick. Then, in game, as I told you on Reddit, make sure you bind to analog and not digital.
Re: NXT Deadzone/Input Lag? Elite Dangerous
Awesome - your help is much appreciated. I think that's an understatement. Sometimes us newbies aren't as smart or logical as we should be
Re: NXT Deadzone/Input Lag? Elite Dangerous
wow the analogue/digital thing was totally the issue...it is a little misleading in the controls...you saved me so much frustration! much kudos m8!
