Gladiator Pro III ground

My home in the tropics has no electrical grounding throughout, only a line and hot wire. This practice is prevalent here. So every time I brush against the joystick base or mount I get an unwelcome 5 volt tingle. My plan is to isolate the plate and mount with a thin plywood shim. Would this cause any problems?
