MCG Ultimate Paddle Lever gave out

Postby dburne » Fri Jun 04, 2021 22:13

The paddle lever on my MCG Ultimate Grip has lost all tension and just moves freely now.
Is this something easily repaired? Is it a spring that has likely broken or what?

Thanks for any tips,

Most likely, the spring has come off. When installing it, pay attention to the presence of a washer under it.

Ok so to get it off to check, is it just the one phillips head screw holding it in?
Edit - took the small phillips head screw out and did not seem to do anything, not sure how to get to the spring in that lever.

Ron, any guidance you might can give me would be greatly appreciated. I assume I need to take the grip apart to access this?
I would also note I have two MCG Pro grips available in addition to this Ultimate Grip should I need in case I need to replace a spring (assuming the MCG Pro uses the same spring).

The two additional MCG Pro grips I have , one is for the Mk I Gunfighter and one is for the Mk III Gunfighter.
I would love to get this brake lever in the Ultimate grip back to normal. Thanks for any help!
One thing I definitely do not want to do, is mess up this great Ultimate Grip and that is what I am afraid of.

Ok so I found a download pdf from VKB on disassembling the MCG Pro along with a video by Noobifier.
I think I am ready to go in there now and hopefully will see what needs to be done. Will update here in a bit.

Well I got it apart and the spring is in there, but don't see anywhere it attaches to. Not sure if that means it is broke or what..

Pretty sure that spring is broken. When I flipped the grip over I thought I saw something fall out of it.
Looking good on my floor I found a small piece that appears to be the same size as that spring probably about 1/2" to 3/4" long.
Betting that is why that spring just rotates now when lever is pulled.

Going to open up one of my MCG Pro grips and see if spring is same and if I can use it here.
Ron - I have not seen any washer. Will see if I see one in the MCG Pro grip I am about to take apart.

Well I got the MCG Pro grip apart, and have the brake lever off. Just thought I would practice putting it back on with the spring before taking the spring out and moving it to the Ultimate grip, and dang if I can figure out how to put it back on and load the spring to it. I am such a dunce. It is obvious the spring that was in the Ultimate was broken.
Just thought I would make sure before taking the spring out of the MCG Pro that I would be able to set it up properly in the Ultimate. So far I can't even get it set up properly in the MCG pro that it is in...

Sorry Don, that's indeed broken :( Unfortunately the one from the MCG Pro won't work (or at least not at the same parameters). Fill up a ticket please and when you'll get the new one I'll open up mine to take pictures and guide you through it.

Ah man and I had just figured out how to load the spring, I just used the spring pull tool that came with my Mk III Gunfighter Pro. Successfully got the paddle back on the MCG Pro and spring loaded fine.

Ok then I will stop there and put my Utimate Grip back together, I won't mess with trying to use the spring then.
I will start a ticket.

Thanks,

OK Ultimate Grip is back together and mounted again, all axis and buttons working properly sans brake lever spring of course.
Now I will get a ticket opened.
Thanks again for saving me trying to put that MCG Pro spring in the Ultimate Grip.

Got the springs in now.
I "think" I have the gist of what I need to do, but any guidance is certainly appreciated! I don't want you to go to too much trouble though.
