Attempting to configure ministick as virtual mouse

Postby scazchumley » Wed Apr 14, 2021 17:32

I'm trying to set up the ministick on the Gladiator NXT Premium - Left to work as a virtual mouse, but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

Here is the axis setup:

And here's the virtual mouse setup:

Image

The axis for the ministick are 5 and 6 (Rot X and Rot Y).

After saving this config to the stick, I can still see the axis moving on the test tab in VKBConfig (because I didn't check the "FA" box for the virtual mouse) so I know the ministick's working, but it's not having any effect on my mouse (i.e. it's not moving the mouse cursor).

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Odd. That one didn't show up when I did a forum search before posting mine. I'll check this out. Thanks for the quick reply!

The only difference I saw in that post was in the Speed and Rate values for the mouse. I tried setting those to the examples in that post and it didn't make any difference. Moving the thumbstick still doesn't affect the mouse cursor.

One thing I'll add is this: I changed the button binding for pushing down on the thumbstick so that it operates just like any other button now, leaving the thumbstick in permanent analog axis stick mode (as is verified when going to the test tab and moving it around).

Can you think of anything else I might try?

Thanks in advance!

So many inversions and reversions on your charts though :) Reset to default, recalibrate and try the mouse thing again without making any changes to the axes.

I'll give that a shot when I get a chance. I've already got my profile saved to a file from just before messing with the virtual mouse settings so it'll be easy to get back to.

Thanks again!

Still no dice. :-( In the VKBConfig software I hit the "Default" button on the Tools tab to rest to defaults, went to the Global tab and set up the mouse with the same settings in the screenshot above (except with the speed and rate set to "5").

I now have to push the thumbstick button to get it into "axis" mode and I can then see the axis moving on the Test tab, but it's still not moving the mouse cursor.

This is rather odd. I've been able to tweak the heck out of this stick (and it's mirror image, the right handed version), but for some reason, I just can't seem to get this one thing working. For the right handed one, I swapped the thumbstick for a hat, so no issues with that one.

Just in case it matters, below is the contents of my zconfig.ini. I believe the only thing I changed was to add "Test Misc Enabled=1" under [Common] and "User=Developer" under [User].

Ok, it's working now even with all of the changes I'd made to the controller (reloaded my custom config). The only difference is that I rebooted my PC.

Thanks for all your help and patience! :-)

Actually, there is one other thing I'd like to try (if it's possible). I've switched from Relative mouse to Absolute and set the height/width to 1920x1080.

The problem is that I have 3 monitors (for an actual resolution of 5760x1080) and I only want the deflection of the ministick to traverse the middle monitor (i.e. full left on the ministick stops the cursor on the left edge of the middle monitor and not the left edge of the left-hand monitor).

Is this possible?

I figured this out. I set the curve values to control it. They default to 128, but I set all of the values for the X axis to 44 and the Y axis to 64. This causes full deflection of the ministick to stop just shy of the edge of the middle monitor. One more up (i.e. 45 and 65) would have caused the mouse cursor to exceed the middle monitor which causes odd behavior in games (all the way to the left flips your view over to the right, for example).

All good now! Can't imagine anything else I'd like to do with these sticks.
