I believe my gunfighter base is defective, or has damage.

Postby Fuze_01 » Thu Mar 25, 2021 6:19

1 - Gunfighter Mk.III w/ Kosmosima Premium
2 - 2_02_5
3 - #30A one per axis
4 - Space-S
5 - v0.91.78

i noticed that my Z axis is acting strangely. It won't center when i turn it left. I have to turn right to get it to center properly. I removed the grip, and noticed that the connector has some damage to it. I only just now noticed it, I've taken some pictures and stopped use.

I just received this item a day ago... what should I do here?

I don't want to fill out 6/7 as I don't want to remount the grip at this stage.

There are 2 reasons the grip won't center when twisting: it's either the locking mechanism it's been too tightened or one of the locking cylinders is sticking out and grinding against the outside wall. Is this the reason it's damaged?

I'm not sure. The "damage" i saw doesn't seem to be very bad, and doesn't seem to be related to the z-axis function, but I believe that the fastener isn't securing properly. When i twist the stick, i can feel and see the grip itself is slipping, the connector on the base doesn't seem to have any visible issues where the fastener grips it, I'm not sure if I'm locking the mechanism too tight or not tight enough? I'm afraid of causing damage to it by torquing it too much.

First try to adjust the dust cover to make sure it's not in the way. Second, tighten the locking screw really good and make sure both cylinders' ends are completely inside the grip. Check this video (different base, but same mechanics).

I watched that video and i'm confident that I followed it exactly.

Here's a few images of the connector where I noticed the damage. Since I noticed it, it has not worsened, and other than the Z-axis issues i've already gone over, everything else works fine.

I have tightened the grip fastener quite well, and it still had that slipping issue. If i tighten it any further, the screw will protrude out of the other side of the threaded clasp. I am assuming that that is not intended, based on other images i've seen from other owners and from VKB's videos as well. I'd rather not do anything that might damage the base or grip.

Please arrange the dust cover as in the second picture I've posted above.
Could you please explain the 'slipping' issue? What exactly is slipping?

I've gotten the dust cover arranged as you posted, these images are from last night before your first post, which was much appreciated.

Now the slipping issue:

So, Twist left, stick moves, then Z axis moves, bring stick back to center, and it doesn't center in the software.
Then, Twist right, stick moves again, then Z axis moves, bring it back to center, and the stick centers properly.

So when i twist the stick, *before the Z axis begins moving, the stick will move, and when released, the z axis will not fully return to center. That's only for twisting left. When i twist right, the stick moves again first, then the Z axis does its full travel, and then centers properly in the software.

EDIT: I was incorrect, see below.

Did you calibrated the stick? If yes, then please post a screenshot with Profile/Axes.

The Test>Axes is of the Z axis at rest after having been turned left.

The movement that i believe to be not-intended is happening between the silver base connector, and the Z-axis connection to the base, as i can physically see it move.

And i was wrong, it is happening after the Z axis has been fully traveled, but without any excess force.

So the grip physically rotates on the base even if it's secured? There's a metal pin on the base and a hole on the bottom of the grip - is the pin all the way in?

Can you please post a picture of the bottom of the grip itself?

Yes, the grip physically rotates, and the pin goes in, but the grip is not flush with the base... maybe half a millimeter - I feel as though I need to stop messing with it and request a replacement. The software is already throwing errors at me.

If the pin gets through the hole it's not possible for the grip to rotate. Release the locking unit and try to press down on the grip while tightening it.
Post clear pictures with both the base stem and bottom of the grip.

I did as you instructed, this time it seems to have secured the grip to the base properly, and the errors have stopped from the software. I'm not sure what i did this time vs the last time when it began going haywire.

The Z axis is still having an issue with centering, but the stick is no longer having that slip.
