input on hat activates two buttons intermittently

I'm using the CFG configuration software not wizzo to try to trouble shoot my gladiator premium left. The hat switch that is 5 way including the center push that is to the left of the 8 way mini joystick with the mode switch... well the hat switch is acting uniformly in all activations except when one pushes to the right, which on the tester screen shows as button 12, the input jumps from 12 to 23 back and forth in rapid succession. All the other buttons associated with this switch provide a solid green indication so long as the relevant button is activated. I noticed this issue while using the hat to set my trim in DCS. It manifested as a light button push rather than continuous hold. I dont know if I have a short or if i just need to flash the thing. I've never felt real comfortable with the software and I can't recall what input button 23 is associated with.

Press the Default button and try again (you'll have to recalibrate afterwards).

I did as instructed and while in the config program it seemed to work. But, when i got back to DCS and started messing around in the yak trainer I discovered a greater issue. While config program sees inputs from buttons 14 and 15; 12 still jumps back to 23 and pressing up and down with 11 and 13 no results in no inputs being detected at all. previously they were. the default button seemed to work initially but now it is worse than it was. 9 and 7 of the center hat (the concave one) are also not responsive. I do not know if i just had not noticed this or if it is new.

1. VKB Gladiator NXT L Premium
2. v2 . 010
3. as shipped
4. as shipped
5. VKB device config. v0.91.73 (njoy32 firmware v2.02.4)
6. i have these programs but am uncertain of what information to provide.
7. " "
on the logger in the joystick tester application, it appeared as if 12 and 23 were receiving a button press at the same time, and the left and right presses of the central concave hat failed to register at all.

Are you sure you've pressed the Default button as requested? Because the screenshots show otherwise.

I went back and recalibrated and reset one or two the buttons. But that was after I reset it to default. For a while there after the issue did not manifest in the config software (using the button logger at least) and I went back to using DCS and I noticed the issue again.

Alright, let's go step by step:
1. open VKBDevCfg and click on the Tools tab;
2. click on the Test tab;
3. click on the Axes1 tab;
4. click on the Default button;
5. click on the Start Calibr button and calibrate your joystick: move the stick along the pitch and roll axes, twist it left and right, push the mini-throttle up and down, press the center button on the A1 hat and when the small red LED lights up move the ministick up/down and left/right (if you have the Standard version of the grip skip the ministick calibration);
6. click on the End Calibr when done and you should be ready to go.

this seems to have worked. Does it matter where you press default? I think I might have been on the button/ pov tab before.
It worked, and then when I wrote the changes i wanted into the stick, the errors previously listed returned. I changed buttons f1 f2 and f3 into toggle switches so I could use them for airbrakes wheel brakes, and the like. The encoders? on each side of the throttle I changed to encoders in the configuration software where previously these were sets of buttons. But... I don't know half of what i'm doing and learning as I go along. I read the manual, but the idea of shift and mode toggles are expressed in a way that I cannot decipher the practical output of such setting. The types of button settings I understood much better, and I don't think i've done anything that would violate anything....But maybe I did? What I want is to have the physical encoders act like the throttle, but ive not been able to test this much due to issues that have cropped up after I write the changes into into the device.
12 and 18 both seem to also activate 23 for some reason. 14 is activating 128. 6 and 8 work on the central hat but not 7 and 9?
I cannot find anything in the button wizard linking the buttons.

Take a look at the
official YouTube page - there are a few useful tutorials over there which might help you; there are more to come. Check especially the ones about profiles and shift mode.
In order to understand how the software works you have to visualize first the way the buttons are programmed: there are 2 layers - physical (the input, PCB wired level) and logical (tester and game output). Most of the times the logical layer has a different number than the physical layer. As soon as you'll figure it out it will become more easier to program your device. You could also experiment, there's nothing that would break. If it's not working remember the magic Default button - that would reset the device to factory settings so you could start over. When you get to a point where you are pleased save that profile to have a restore point.
Meanwhile please ask any questions you might have.
