Build quality of my MCG Ultra

Postby Pikas62 » Thu Jan 21, 2021 16:21

I received my MCG UItra grip today and unfortunately I have to say that I am a little disappointed with the build quality. The gap on the front of the grip is not uniform (see Fig. 1). I tried to loosen all the screws so that I could align it better. But I had to find out that one connection is not a screw, but a rivet or something similar (see Figure 2, the point marked with the arrow). In any case, I can't unscrew this connection because the head is flat. Do I have an MCG Ultra with normal build quality or is that an exception? I think a grip with the price should have better build quality.

In the second photo, this is the hole for the palm support pin - there are no fasteners.

In case you missed it, you need to unscrew the the one on the brake lever. Also, you need to take off the hat cap on the side of the head.

Yes. And if it's of similar design as the MCG-Pro, you're gonna need a long #0 Phillips screwdriver to get at the one screw at the top end. It's in a deep recess. There's a video on the VKB channel about taking the grip apart.

Many thanks for your help. I opened a ticket at the same time and received the message that my request was being forwarded to Product Management. I'll wait for the answer first. Otherwise, in my opinion, the stick is even better than the normal MCG. The buttons, especially the trim switches, are a lot better defined and it feels really good in the hand.

I love the stick but mine looks similar actually, I dont think its that bad, during use I dont notice it but when I look closely it is a little bothersome with my mild OCD :)
So if you get an answer or find a solution please post back. because Im not sure how easy it will be to line up a metal casting.

EDIT: actually, it may be the way its done on all of them. I had a look at that 1 youtube video about MCGU and it looks the same when you find the angle of the shot. Same with the switch replacement video by VKB, i can pause it at a specific time and it also has this slight "space" going up the grip.
