Software and Keyboard emulation

Postby Zeanon » Fri Dec 11, 2020 16:30

Hi guys, another one from me.
This time a technical question since I really love my new stick(despite the rather minor flaw in my previous post), which is an incredibly huge improvement over Mad Catz Fly 5 and Logitech extreme 3D pro(still a bit overwhelmed with the amount of buttons in Elite Dangerous).
Now to my question: i would like to put WASD and Space on the center 4-way hat of the stick(I can not double map in Elite unfortunately since I already need WASD and the left xbox stick as mappings to those functions).
When I map WASD to the hat in the software it will not work, so naturally I activated keyboard emulation, which made the mapped stuff work, but no default Joystick button was working now.
Am I missing something? Because being able to use that hat for control in the interface would be awesome.

Try workaround. Set Shift. HAT as WASD but shifted - as native buttons. Please show screenshots of your button settings.

This is how I set up the keys to now function as "wasd" and space(originally button 14-19)

If I have Keyboard mode turned off as shown here, the hat will not do anything anymore. If I put keyboard mode to either "classic" or "modified" the hat will output "wasd" and space, but no other button will work.

For both buttons and keyboard keys to work, you need to use Shift.
Let's assign this switch (Alternate) to the center button of this HAT (logical 18=physical 5). Activate the Poll checkbox to find out this button.
And so as not to lose the button, check the Track as button checkbox.

Then we assign free logical buttons to work with Shift (33,34,35,36). And already on them are the WASD keyboard keys. Only one button is shown, the rest are configured similarly.

And it remains to configure the indication of the Shift mode. On the orange BB it looks like this.

Thank you so much for the in-depth explanation :)
