I want to (eventually) use the encoders as buttons (physical level) that cause a keypress at logical level. TO start wuth though I thought I'd try to get the F2 and F3 buttons to emit a keypress.
I left the physical section alone and in the logical section set the mappings to KEY_A and KEY_B:
I then "Set" my config.
After doing this the logical thing to do is try it out by clicking on the Test tab and checking the Log Joystick and Keyboard checkboxes. Note that checking either of these actually causes a partial UI lockup, requiring app to be closed and restarted if you wan to go back to editing profiles, but that aside clicking F1 and F2 produces no Keyboard output, not button output for these buttons anymore. Also, activating atext editor I found that clicking the buttons did not produce a letter a or b in the editor.
What a I doing wrong!?
Thanks.

Re: Cannot get button to trigger a keypress on Gladiator NXT
Solved: I needed to enable Mode Classic under Keyboard.
UI still partially locks up when testing the keyboard

Same here. I advise you Logitech DIVIEW and/or Thrustmaster Event Tester.
More explanation in this reddit post. The EventTester share link is dead, so I added it in this post attachement, together with DIVIEW.

You just need to follow the sequence - both entered and exited. Ie, to test the keyboard, activate the "Keyboard" checkbox in Test - check the operation of the keys - uncheck the checkbox and exit.
