Multidevice NG firmware...

Postby rwalker » Mon Aug 24, 2020 3:39

Hi, I have a MCG Pro stick ( Gunfighter Mk.III, upgraded from Mk. II) with the orange black box. I'm trying to flash the firmware file _BlackBox_GF_MULTIDEVICE_v1_99_B NG.vkb (I've tried all versions starting with 99_0) using VKBDevCfg-C_v0.91.30.exe. The firmware loads with no errors but I have 3 issues when trying to calibrate the MGC Pro (and after):

1. The range of motion of the Gate Cont is very small, only about 25% in either direction.
2. The Master mode when in POV mode, will only recognize the upper right movement.
3. The Master mode when in axis mode moves extremely slow.

FWIW, I can flash the non-NG version (_BlackBox_GF_MCG_PRO_v1_99_B NG.vkb) and it works fine.
I have the F14 stick, but haven't tried with it yet.

Is there any special steps for the Multidevice firmware that I am missing?

Thanks!

If you use the latest beta firmware you have to use the latest beta configurator version too; yours btw is even older than the most recent stable version.
After flashing a new firmware you also have to reset to default and only after that re-calibrate.
I can't replicate any of the issues at 1. and 2. At nr. 3. - the Master Mode comes by default programmed as Relative Axes, which keeps the highest position on the axis when the ministick is released. The speed could get adjusted through software.

would the latest configurator be 0.91.38? I get the same results with that version. Here is where I get the firmware: http://alex-oz.strana.de/index.htm.

Regarding reset, yes, I forgot to mention that I always reset before and after flashing.

Using zbootloader v1.18

Show screenshot of Global-External-Phys.Axes tab after calibration.

I wasn't sure how many items in the list need to be seen, let me know if you need more than the first 8.

Your microstick axes are not calibrated (3,4,5,6). We need to fix this.

I'm not sure if you mean I did something wrong with the calibration or it is a software issue? Let me know if there is something I can do to fix it.

Thanks

It looks like mentioned axes were not calibrated.

I understand the software says that, however, I did calibrate using my usual process: click default, click start calibrate, move the following axis to their extents in this order: stick, master mode, gate cont, break lever, trigger, click end calibrate. Same process I've used probably 100 times with non-MULTIDEVICE firmware. Never had this issue with any other firmware, even the firmware in the same directory as the NG firmware. There was new NG firmware yesterday, same issue, tried _BlackBox_GF_MULTIDEVICE_v1_99_D NG.vkb, has the problem, tried the specific firmware, _BlackBox_GF_MCG_PRO_v1_99_D NG.vkb, worked fine.

Is there a different way I should calibrate with MULTIDEVICE firmware? Is that the wrong firmware? Image attached showing calibration looking like it worked for _BlackBox_GF_MCG_PRO_v1_99_D NG.vkb.

It meant that you need to fix this, not us. Sorry, translation difficulties google translator. :D

ok, any pointers on how to fix it? I am calibrating all the axis, I don't know how to fix it otherwise. My previous message shows the results for a different firmware. Unless the calibration procedure has changed, I know I'm calibrating correctly.

Reset the settings with the button in the configurator and recalibrate. You have the wrong multipliers.

I have done that many times if you are talking about the default button. Here are some screenshots, hopefully this will help communicate it better what I just tried. Please let me know if I did something wrong. Thanks.

1. First, click on the Tools/Default button and see this:

2. I clicked the Set button on that dialog.

3. The configurator software reset the joystick and I was told I need to calibrate.

4. Next, I click Start Calibr, during calibration, Slider1 and RotZ have a very small movement extents, I captured how far Slider1 will move, the small movement is on both sides of 0.

5. finished all the axis calibration, clicked End Calibr. Slider1 and RotZ still has a very small range of movement. RotY and RotX move extremely slowly.

6. In addition, the POV 1 stick will only register to the upper right and lower right corners. If I move it anywhere else, the indicator on screen just stays in the middle. Here I am holding the POV to the lower left:

I have tried my F14 stick with this firmware and everything works as expected. I unplugged the orange box, put on the F14 stick, calibrated, and it just worked.

So, my guess at this point is:

1. The software is bugged (either firmware or config software), but we know it works for some others. So, maybe it has to do with the upgrade from MK II to MK II. Obviously, I have no idea what is going wrong with the software, I can only explain my setup.
2. My stick/orange box is somehow defective. While possible, I can't explain why I have no problems with every other firmware I've tried (and I've tried alot of them).

I guess there is nothing left for me to try, so if you have any other suggestions, I would appreciate it.

After calibrating with the MCG grip installed, show a screenshot of the Global-External-Phys.Axes tab. I advise you to add the selected lines to the zconfig.ini file.
