Dead X-Axis on GF Mk1

Postby Goblox » Thu May 21, 2020 4:59

Hello,

I've had x-axis problems going on ever since I bought the stick, however, it has been fixed after disassembling and reassembling usually. Last time was a year ago to the day, almost.http://forum.vkb-sim.pro/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=3126 While playing IL-2 today, I noticed that my stick was pulling really hard to the right at times. I figured it was probably just my x-axis showing jitter and needed to be disassembled and cleaned, but then, it pulled hard to the right again and wouldn't re-center. I took everything apart, cleaned it out with a couple of bursts of canned air, and reassembled.

While I had it apart, I snapped some photos of the gimbal because I was also going to buy the upgrade kit. I also replaced two broken springs and swapped out my #30 cams for my #10 cams. Everything went back together as expected.

After reassembling and testing, the x-axis appears stuck and only has two values when moving it along its entire axis: 32767 and 65535. I've tried recalibrating the device, restarting the device, and inspecting parts for damage, but nothing appears to be working.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Show screenshots of the Profile-Axes tab.

Hey Ron, Do you mean a screenshot from VKB_JoyTester.exe? I don't see a Profile-Axes tab anywhere

In the configurator, this is a tab.

In Wizzo? I don't see a tab labeled "profile-axes" anywhere.

I see this https://i.imgur.com/WhsQniG.png in my VKB Joy Tester
this in Wizzo: https://i.imgur.com/0MHht1J.png
and this in VKBDevCfg-C.exe: https://i.imgur.com/vl7NtKU.png - I just noticed this has a tab labeled "Axes1", but I'm not sure if this is the tab you're referring to. Maybe i'm using old software since this is the MK1?

I hope this is what you're looking for, if not, let me know and I'll provide additional details.

Thanks for the help and responses so far!

After looking at my screen shots again, I just noticed there was a set of tabs at the bottom that had a "Profile" tab - would have never thought to look there.

Here is a screenshot of what I see when selecting the "Profile" tab at the bottom of the program, and then selecting the "Axes" tab within that. https://i.imgur.com/RyMTVWh.png

The numbers 30 and 255 in the KdHi and KdLo columns look very suspicious.
Try calibrating the X axis only a few more times and compare the numbers with those on the Y axis.
They should be approximately the same. If this is not the case, then you should check the reliability of the connector pin on the cable on the X board, on both sides.

Thanks Ron!

Looks like I needed to disconnect and reconnect each of those jst/molex connectors. Just making sure they were fully seated before re-calibrating wasn't enough. After disconnecting and reconnecting the connectors, the calibration worked as expected.

Thanks for the super quick help! I feel confident about ordering the electronics & cams upgrade now.

I also updated the thread title as [Solved].
