Gunfighter Mk1 Roll axis sensor oscillations

Postby HeresToYou88 » Wed Apr 01, 2020 17:29

Gunfighter MCG Pro v1.986
Device config v0.91.10
Njoy32 firmware v1.98.5

Using extension + heavy springs, default cams
One of the first batches of gunfighter orders in the USA - order 1882 on February 28, 2017
Upgraded to MCG pro from the original grip in August 2018

Issue:
Stick has worked marvelously for 3 years in my dedicated sim-pit until this weekend. In IL2 the roll axis would oscillate all over, and pushing the physical stick to the stops only moved it a bit in the game, while oscillating wildly. Pitch axis and all other analog inputs are behaving normally.

Steps taken to resolve:
Replicated the issue in device config and joytester.
Flashed latest firmware using bootloader ("_BlackBox_GF_MCG_PRO_v1_98_6.vkb")
Reset all settings to default in device config
Attempted to re-calibrate MANY times in device config, following instructions @ https://vkbcontrollers.com/?p=7982

Roll axis will not calibrate, it jumps around in joytester/test tab on device config and now shows that the logical axis is at the extremes when the physical stick has only been moved 20%. Additionally the roll axis constantly chooses a new "center" for the logical axis, as though the sensor doesn't know where the stick is.
All other analog axes calibrate just fine and show no anomalies

This is hard to show with a screenshot in lieu of a video so for now I will attach a picture of the test tab in device config showing the random centering:

Have you checked the connections inside the GunFighter case? Especially those 3 wires feeding the roll sensor board.

Also the device firmware is the latest, but you should upgrade the software too, from here: https://vkbcontrollers.com/wp-content/u ... 91.15_.zip

I have not opened it up yet since it's a bit of a pain in the butt with it bolted down to my sim-pit but I can do that tonight. I will report back.

Thanks for the rapid response!

I decided that since I'm working from home I'd just do it now :)

Everything is solidly connected on the inside. The three pin connector that's rubber-banded through the center seems a little high on its connection, but I removed it and then pushed it back in and it doesn't seem to go any further without excessive force and I don't want to break the connector that's soldered to the board.

I'll attach pictures of the inside in case those are useful. I appreciate your help- it's horrible to be stuck in a quarantine with a broken joystick!

Disconnect the white connectors from the boards, check for broken wires or loose connections, plug them back and give it another try.
