analog ministick = hat switch (space grip premium)

i have a small problem.

in play elite dangerous and the game seems to think that the analog ministick is the same as one of the hat switch (bottom one).
now i checked in windows (joy.cpl) and everything seems fine. the hat switch is assigned to 5 different buttons (including the center push) and the ministick is recognized as pov.

anyone know how i can fix it. is it a problem with elite dangerous? that would really suck to lose out on 5 buttons.

Elite Dangerous is a beautiful game, but is seems that its devs at some point lost interest in keeping the game properly updated. Same boring missions, continuous grinding for mats, ineffective PowerPlay etc etc etc. Also it's one of the few sims on the market still locked within a 32 buttons limitation per device. So if your joystick has more than 32 buttons (and it might have) some of them are ignored and other getting confused.
Do this: first of all, stop using Windows joy.cpl, that's another outdated piece of software; use instead the Button Tester: https://vkbcontrollers.com/wp-content/u ... Tester.zip. Try all your buttons and see if they exceed 32. If you're within 32 come back and we'll look for another solution. If you're above 32 buttons do this:
- open VKBDevCfg, go to Global/ Common tab;
- set the #Butt (1.) to 32, VC (2.) to 2 and hit the Set button (3.);

This will create several virtual controllers with maximum 32 buttons per unit so E:D would recognize them all. The bad thing is that you'll have to re-bind the controls into the game all over again (good thing is that you'll learn them better :)).

the weirdest part of it all is that when im at a space station or in a menu the game recognizes the mini stick and the hat as different inputs but as soon as im flying/ driving around it thinks the hat= ministick and viceversa.

Sounds like you have some bindings overriding one another. There are so many in Elite it gets really confusing as to which have Supremacy in different modes.

You might print out your bindings file and go over it with a fine-tooth comb.

I suppose it's also possible that you've accidentally assigned two hardware buttons to the same digital output? You would have to look at your configuration in the vkbdevcfg software.

I know I don't see this with my left hand premium but I have the analog hat configured as axes not buttons.
