GF mkIII stuck in "Lite" mode

Postby bolek » Sat Dec 28, 2019 9:18

Hi,
I am having strange problems with my brand new GF MkIII with MCG Pro grip.
Basic info:
  1. - Device model and version: Gunfighter Mk.III table top with MCG Pro grip, no extension
  2. - Controller Firmware version: 1.98.1
  3. - Number and type of springs used: single #10 spring on both axes
  4. - Тype of cams used: Avia-S on both axes
  5. - VKB software version: VKBDevCfg 0.90.93 and ZBootloader 1.18
  6. - Vkbjoytester screenshots: see below
  7. - Vkbdevcfg-c screenshots: see below
I also tried different versions and there wasn't any difference in behavior that I could see.

The problem is that the the joystick seems to think it's some kind of "Lite" version and none of the buttons and axis seem to work. When flashing the firmware I always get the
"!!! Device signature not correct - flash fail !!!
Please check version of firmware file for this device"
as in the attached screenshots. I am also attaching the external devices page from VKBDevCfg and JoyTester (which gets no response at all). I tried to change the device from "None" to "GF Base" as was suggested in another thread but there is no way to save it in the device. Clicking on the "Set" button gives me the error "Set is not allowed (not PRO version)".

I also tried the "hard reset" using the Boot button but that didn't change anything.

How do I get this working? I can attach more screenshots if needed.

Thanks
Bolek

I would say that your grip doesn't make contact properly with the base. Please post a screenshot with the active tabs Test/ External Devices.

Try flashing another device, such as T-Rudder pedals. And then flash your own, for MCG Pro. I advise you not to change the settings in External, if you do not know what they affect.

Thanks guys for helping troubleshoot, but I am still nowhere.

There is no "Test->External Devices" tab! Only "Test->Buttons/POVs" and "Test->Axes". See screenshots:

Test-Axes.png

None of the buttons and axes work at all.
I tried this but it won't let me, I am still getting the same "Device signature not correct" error in the ZBootloader (see the screenshot in the original post). It does let me however flash the _NJOY32_v1_98_1.vkb firmware. It flashes successfully but does not change the behavior, still everything the same. And it seems that this is the only firmware kind that can be flashed.
OK, I won't. It doesn't let me anyway.

But maybe I wasn't clear initially, it does not let me change any settings at all, not just those on the Global->External tab. I mean, I can change them but when I click "Set" I always get this error:

Try to delete all the files and start all over again following this guide: https://youtu.be/8Ht8yMsdlCQ

OK, I did everything exactly as in the video (though versions have changed) and I am still getting the "Device signature not correct" error at the flashing step, as before.

I suggested that you flash first for the T-Rudder pedals and only then for the MCG Pro, but you managed to fill in for Njoy32 - you should never do this. This is completely wrong firmware.
Try flashing from another grip (SCG) and then only for MCG.

Sorry for misunderstanding, I did try the T-rudder first but you said "another device" so when T-Rudder didn't work, I tried some others.

I tried SCG just now and it cannot be flashed either. I get the same error about device signature.

P.S. I edited the original post so the basic info is in the requested 7 point list format (it was all there, just re-arranged).

Happy New Year to everyone at VKB!

I still need help with this issue. The brand new joystick is unusable (not working at all) and I don't know what else to try. Is this a software or a hardware issue? There is no visible damage to mechanical or electrical components but obviously there could be something hidden. But at least it is recognized by the computer.

Thanks

1) Enter to firmware upgrade mode (run VKBDevcfg-C and click Bootloader button)
2) Run ZBootloader-C
3) Delete text "Select file ->>>" and type
save
4) You can find a file with "op1" extension in same with ZBootloader folder.
5) Send ".op1" to sales@vkb-sim.pro
