BLACKBOX LEDs, what they mean and why they change color

Postby AeroGator » Thu Jun 27, 2019 9:44

We have had a number of inquiries recently about LEDs changing their color after FW update.
Indeed, it may look alarming, if you know for sure that the System LED on your BB was blue before update, and after update it suddenly turned red.
Many take it as a signal of the update having gone wrong, or even worse, the device malfunction.

NO it is NOT.
Everything is fine with your BB.
The only thing you need to do is re-configure LED color through the config utility.

Yes it is a bit of a trouble, we understand and apologize for it.

Hence,
PLEASE SAVE PROFILE PRIOR TO UPDATING THE FW.
If you do, then after the update is done all you will need to do is load the profile, and you're good.

However,
Sometimes the update is more than just a minor tweak. It may be deeper and more sophisticated (such as when new functions are added to existing functionality). In this case manual re-configuration is the only way to go.

Why so?
Because we are trying to make our goods as customizable as possible, and as universally compatible as possible.
On one hand it allows us to offer unparalleled functionality and flexibility of user-settings. On the other hand however it comes for the price of having to master our not-always-very-intuitive software utilities.

BlackBox has been in production long enough and lived through a few generations of internal upgrades. We're still maintaining through compatibility - at least by the means of the FW - so that the owners of the BBs of previous years could use full functionality of the newest ones.
We are sorry that some of you friends have to tidy up after the upgrade. At least now you know why.

This does not happen after every update. Let me repeat, if you save and load the profile, then most of updates will be fast and easy.

Hope it sheds some light :)
Happy flying!
Best Regards,
AeroGator
