SCG Premium Left & Right Firmware

Postby CaptainFlint42 » Thu May 09, 2019 3:54

Hey there
If I have both SCG Premium Right and SCG Premium Left, do I need to install new firmware in the base when switching grips?
If I don't install the firmware, what will be affected in games?
I have a Gunfighter Mk1 base and Gladiator Pro Mk2 base. I'd like to be able to play around with grip layouts without switching firmware.

Thanks!

The firmwares are grip and base specific. If say you had a gunfighter base and SCG grip with the firmware for that pair and then switched the grip to an MCG-Pro you'd need to re-flash with the gunfighter/MCG-Pro firmware. And so on each time you might swap grips.

So here is my specific setup...
Gladiator Pro Mk2 with SCG Premium Right
Gunfighter Mk1 with SCG Premium Left

I'd like to switch grips and play around with layouts... It is just left/right variations of the same SCG Premium grip... what do I lose if I don't reflash firmware?

I don't have the SCG grip so I don't know if there is a left and right firmware. If there is--then yes, you'd have to re-flash when you swapped sides. That way the base knows what it has plugged into it. If not--a common firmware for left and right-- then I'd think not. As long as the correct firmware for the base and grip combo has been flashed you should be good to go. Unfortunately there isn't a universal firmware for every combination. But that goes to the modularity of this stick system which is pretty cool actually.

There are different firmware versions for Gladiator Pro + SCG Left, Gladiator Pro + SCG Right, GF + SCG Left and GF + SCG Right so I don't think it would work.
Why won't you give it a try anyway and let us know? It would be interesting if it'd work.

Thanks for the firmware info!

So what that means is it WILL work but not without some extra work on his part to make it happen. I'd say set up the pairs one way, default, calibrate, program stuff as you like and then save a profile of that. Swap grips, re-flash with the appropriate firmwares for each pair and do the same for the other setup saving a profile for those pairs as well.

EACH TIME you change to different grips you HAVE to re-flash but once you've defaulted and calibrated them you can just load the profile for the setup you saved before and tweak it appropriately, saving again as needed. Just name them something so you can keep track of which profile is for which pair is where! Hope that made sense!

So it can be done by not without going thru a few hoops.

So I did try it.
Installed grips, started Elite Dangerous, set up everything as I wanted.
Swapped grips.
Buttons mapped as before on both grips, but the axes seemed to be quite messed up. There was a permanent input on each one so I ended up ramming into the sides of the space station as I undocked. :D I couldn’t correct it by remapping axes in the game.
Re-flashed correct firmware and everything seemed to be fine

^^^ This. Might be cumbersome, but that's the way it is.
