Haven't found any info other than "self tapping" and "flat head" and "short so it doesn't pierce the wiring."
Does anyone have more specific info so i know what to get from the hardware store?

You need a 2/3mm Philips screwdriver for remove the palm rest.
I take some measures - with cheaper plastic caliper, not much precise.
Then is 43 (small diameter of tube) -15 (gimbal pole OD) = 28 / 2 = 14 or 48 (big diameter) -15 =33 / 2 = 16.5
14 - 2 (the recess for screw in tube) = 12 what mean a 15mm for the needed screw 'lock", the additional ~3mm will bit the gimbal pole.
The hole for screw is 1/16" or ~2mm.
You need a screw like the ones that fit palm rest - they are 10mm (length) x 2mm (OD); but with 15mm of length.
BTW - If latter you decide remove this lock maybe will be need dismantle grip and sand the pole in screw region due burrs of screw in plastic.
