I can see the hat working in windows USB tester and the button tester I downloaded.

But in x-plane no joystick buttons register unless i hold down the shift pinky button. Anyone know why?

Yes, there is. But XP-10 and XP-11 does not recognize the hat. But if it is configured as a button, everything works fine. How to do this can be found here. It is highly recommended prior to making changes to keep the current, operational profile. And download for X-Plane appropriate.

Just for info :
with the pinky button, the main four positions (N,W,S,E) are recognized as buttons and no more as a hat.

Or download a profile in what POV HAT is set as 4 buttons, the ones with "HAT0".
