New Cobra M5 keeps disconnecting/stopping

Postby Noshtzy » Thu Nov 10, 2016 6:37

I just received a new Cobra M5 rev.B from VKB and I'm having issues with unresponsiveness and disconnects.
Most of the time, either after a few minutes or a few hours, the stick simply stops responding, but remains connected. The Windows game controller interface doesn't detect any movement or buttons.
Other times the joystick will suddenly disconnect then reconnect as an unknown USB device. These are USBLogView logs of that happening: http://i.imgur.com/2HReyd2.png http://i.imgur.com/5w4ikn0.png
I've tried connecting to hubs and to the PC directly, and I've tried both USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with this issue? I fear the shipping costs if the stick is defective, but it's happening every few minutes now and I can't use my brand new stick.

Judging by the screenshots, you have 3 version.

Is the Windows version? You can try to disable the power-saving function for USB. For Win7 it is done as shown http://forum.vkb-sim.pro/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2311#p22644 here, but the VID / PID will be different.
Win10 it is almost the same.

Yes, I have the 3rd version (Rev.B) and I have already tried your suggestion, making sure the USB ports and the stick do not allow power saving. I also turned off USB suspend in the power plan settings. It is not the same issue as you linked. In my case, the stick either remains frozen or as "unknown device" until it is unplugged and plugged back in. I am running Windows 10 64-bit.

Do you have the ability to connect the joystick to another computer?

I left it connected to a Windows laptop for about eight hours and it doesn't seem to have had the same problem. I guess it is only my PC, even though a Saitek X-52, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Pedals, and VKB Gladiator do not have this issue.

I think this is the controller's firmware problem.
Unfortunately, we can not help. We are not developers of latest Cobra controller and we can not fix the firmware.

I submitted the issue to VKB Europe's "Contact us" form on flightsimcontrols.com but haven't gotten a reply back yet. That's where I ordered it from. Do you think a replacement controller board would help? I don't think it's worth sending the joystick back to the Netherlands from the US.

I asked Eduard from VKB-FCS to contact you.

Hello Noshtzy,

We have discussed it via email but for completeness I would like to confirm that Defender technical support agreed to replace a controller and the replacement part has been shipped.

Best regards,
Eduard
