How to Use Trimmer Buttons to Reset Axis?

Postby Weegie » Sat May 14, 2016 20:32

II've got an FBM MkIII and I'm running VKB Device Config V 0.76.3.8 and Firmware V1.790

With the info I've found on here I've got the Trimmer knobs to work and combined with the X & Y axes to provide trimming functions, even if there are none in the sim itself

However I read that the encoder button can be used to reset an axis, so by pressing the knob you can reset the trim to zero, this would be really useful but despite various experiments I've failed miserably

Can anybody show me how to use the software to do this?

I also have a second question that's not so important but a little baffling. When using the the ButtonX function to provide a subshift in Shift0, I've noticed that when I move the mode switch to Shift1 or Shift2 instead of getting the unshifted keyboard function I've assigned I get the subshifted action.

For example if I assign key A to be the unshifted action and key B to be the subshifted action in Shift0, it works are it should. However when I move the Shift switch to Shift1 or Shift2 when I press the key I now get the subshifted action. So in Shift1 or Shift2 if I press the key I'd get B. It's not a huge biggie I was just curious if that was intended of if I was missing something

I think you configured encoder as an analog trimmer, as virtual axis. Rdr Trim knob uses lines 23 and 24 for rotation. But it has push button on line 22. To use this button as a trimmer reset, select Trimmer function in Button Mapping wizard and check the number of the virtual axis that you've made from encoder.

Victorus

Thank You for the swift reply, I have learned a lot about this software from your posts

I really like the power and flexibility of the programming software and yet I'm still only scratching the surface, there is sooooo much more in there. At first I had real reservations but a lot of the layout is intuitive once you get your head around all the various layers and the physical Vs Logical

You read my mind and provided the EXACT solution I requested.

I now have 2 resets for trimming on the X & Y axes

Super I owe you :D

About subshifts. ButtonX is used to assign subshifted button in combination with global shifts. To use this function you must set subshift number to 7!
I’d like to see your settings.
Try to use my recommendation. May be it will correspond to you idea.
Set desired button as subshift #1. For Shift0 only.

Set button as ButtonS. I use #29 (red button on warthog grip). Set corresponding subshift (#1in our case). Set button number for virtual button with subshift pushed (#30).

Set.
How it works. Slider in the middle, nor Shift1 nor Shift2, thus Shift0. Push my red button and see 29 in joytester. Push and hold subshift, push red button and have #30.
In case of Shift1 os Shift2 is activated I have #29 regardless of subshift.
I did not use mapping but with keys it will be the result will be similar.
Note. My VKBDevConfig is 0.77.2.3, (http://forum.vkb-sim.pro/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=908) firmware 1.790.
Did you look here http://forum.vkb-sim.pro/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2112. I recommend.

PS
BTW I've found a topic about subshift 7 and ButtonX.

Got it working perfectly Victorus using your instructions

I had the buttons set to ButtonX from following a previous tutorial by you. I didn't know that ButtonX is for Subshifts for multiple modes (shift1 & shift2) and ButtonS is for Shift0 only.

Now it all works as it should.

Another Big Thank you for the links I will go through these & pick up some more information I am sure

I already have downloaded the new configurator version too, I'll load that up later.

You are very kind and very fast

John
