Deleted a whole bunch of stuff in this post that was *probably* redundant.
Only question I have remaining is: Will pressing "Set" after making some changes/settings to logical buttons etc, then continuing to make more changes, press "Set" again after those are done and then pressing "save" result in profile settings not working when the stick is re-plugged or the PC is restarted?
I just received a replacement for my Ultimate on Monday and since the profiles I had created for the first Ultimate I had didn't seem to work with the new grip (even though they were created on the same Firmware and VKB Config versions), I just tried to re-create /rebuild that profile. Doing so in the way I described further up resulted in my changes/settings either not working or not working after the stick gets re-plugged or the PC is re-booted.
I then went and did all the changes I wanted to make (flip trigger/brake axis button settings/physical -> logical button settings plus slightly changed DZs for X and Y). Only after I had done all those changes did I push the "Set"-button and then "Save" to create a file.
This *seems* to have worked.
Could it be as simple as me not following the correct work-order that VKB Config expects?

Re: MCG PRO Trigger button not working
The Set button writes everything that was done in the configurator to the controller.
The Save button writes changes (profile) to a file on the disk, not to the controller.
But it may happen that when changing the firmware or configurator, the previously saved profile will not be able to function correctly. Although, to be honest, during all the time of use, I have had only a couple of such cases (when switching from the NG version).
Therefore, when recording a profile, I always put the firmware version as the first digits, which allows me to navigate which configurator is needed if something goes wrong.
Therefore, you need to find out if something is interfering with the recording by the Set button and therefore the changes are not saved in the controller.
And this is a fairly extensive topic and there can be many reasons.

Re: MCG PRO Trigger button not working
What would I do without you Ron?
Like I said: I *think* I went about this the wrong way with all those "Set"-presses while making my changes. Especially since now it seems to be working as before when I used the method I described above (make all changes in one go, and only then press "Set".
However, since you are here:
When I press "Save" to create a file, the profile that is currently "open" in VKB Config app gets saved - not whatever is on the Black Box, correct?
And if that is correct, shouldn't the procedure to make changes to an existing profile be:
1. Load existing profile file from disk
2. Make changes in the app
3. Press "Set" to apply changes/send them to the Black Box.
4. Press "Save" (and overwrite the old profile) to save the changes.
?
Once I press "Set" the profile should still be loaded into the VKB app, so if I then press "Save" (after "Set"), I should be saving this still "active" profile to disk, right?
Also, also: If I understand correctly, the "Get"-button should fetch whatever is currently on the Black Box and load it into the app, correct? If so: Is this another way to alter an existing profile? Meaning:
1. Press "Get" to fetch BB's active profile into the app
2. Make changes to the profile
3. Press "Set" to send the altered profile to the BB.

Re: MCG PRO Trigger button not working
Judging by the text, one very important step in the entire profile loading process is missing.
The thing is that if there is no check mark here, after pressing the Load button, the profile will be loaded only into the configurator, not into the controller.
The controller will receive it only after pressing the Set button. By checking the box, this process will be automated. Everything else is correct.

Re: MCG PRO Trigger button not working
EDIT: Misunderstood you there so scratch what I wrote before..
I don't think I ever changed that setting on any of the previous versions of VKB Config I've ever used.
However: This is how this version of the app now looks for me right after I start it:
Here's what my settings look like now (my only change was to activate "set after load", everything else is on defaults.
Only when I click on the "VKB Sim Gunfighter, etc"-entry will all the info pop up in the lower part of the window. Older versions of VKB Config wouldn't do that and would always display all the info/buttons, etc down there whenever the app started (no need to click on the entry up top). I'm guessing my current version is not reading the stick (the stick's profile?) automatically on app start. Or maybe it's trying to read them and fails: I just saw that the "read device OK" message appears under the stick's pic in the top right when the app starts... but then nothing happens until I click on the stick's entry up top - then "read device OK" will appear again and only then will all the buttons, etc appear in the lower part of the window. I would imagine this automatic reading is what "auto read parameters" in the settings is for ... which is activated for me but doesn't really seem to work. I am running VKB Config in Admin-mode, BTW.. not sure if that has anything to do with this and I'm pretty sure I ran older versions as Admin as well, so...
EDIT: Here's what VKB Config start up now looks for me:
https://youtu.be/cvs8E6etLoM
I also noted the following, which may or may not be related (but I think this is what caused some of the trouble for me before with mappings not working):
When I unplug the stick/black box from the PC (or restart the PC) and then re-plug it while the flip trigger is in the "safe" position (forward), my flip trigger logical mappings (35 and 38 both to logical 25) don't work. When I re-plug the stick while the flip trigger is in the "armed" (down) position, those mappings work fine and as expected.
Very confusing..
Not even sure this is a hardware-thing (I suspect it has more to do with VKB Config?), but: The only difference between the first Ultimate and now this one (besides using a newer version of VKB Config) is that the newer grip seems quite a bit different: The surface of the grip's shell feels very smooth where the older Ultimate had a rough and "anti-slip" kind of surface. The newer grip's brake-lever and flip trigger also feel a little less stiff and smoother in operation than on the older Ultimate. The connection to the gimbal also looks a bit different (there's a small cut-out on the underside that the older grip did not have) and the grip felt a bit harder to slide onto the extension/gimbal than the older one. Almost like the newer grip's connector was made with tighter tolerances.

Re: MCG PRO Trigger button not working
I guess I figured out what the mistake was.
Now in order:
1.unpack the VKBDevCfg-C_v0.93.17(3).zip archive (the numbers depend on the version) into the folder of the same name on the disk, this will be our working folder of the configurator
2.place the ZBootloader2.exe flasher file into it (from the archive of the same name)
3.after the first launch of the configurator, the zconfig.ini file will appear in the folder, add additional lines from here, highlighted, according to the sections
4.make a shortcut to launch the configurator from the desktop

Re: MCG PRO Trigger button not working
Thanks again, Ron.
I updated both the firmware and VKB Config (2.18 A and 93.17 (3) IIRC), re-calibrated, tried to load my old profile .... and everything was back to working normally. I was on 2.18 and 93.01.1 before so perhaps a bug or conflict in the older firmware and/or config-app?
