Gunfighter MKII F-14 Yaxis stuck at "0" of 100

Postby Khungen92 » Thu Apr 21, 2022 4:30

Hi,

Plugged in my Gunfighter MKII F-14 today and noticed my aircraft was pitching up uncontrollably in game. Recalibrated and flashed the control stick and in the software I noted that as I gently pull back on the control Y axis, the input shown on the device configurator jumps from the midpoint to zero, indicating a constant 100% stick input. When I gently center the stick this condition goes away. as a gently pull back on the stick the Y axis jumps back to 0. (Approx 32750 to 0)

See screen shot attached below.

Probably still a calibration issue. Post a screenshot please showing Profile/Axes/Physical and Logical Axes.

VKB Gunfighter MKII with F-14 Twist throttle

I checked the cam and bearing on the Y axis again for binding or free play and see none. No wires are broken or damaged, wires are seated properly in connectors. All hardware was checked for tightness on the cams and rotational sensors are securely attached but not over tightened. None of the bearings that ride on the cams have ratcheting or pitting in the surface, and the cams look clean and have a very light film of lubricant applied. I verified that the rotational bearing does not slide or bind through the range of motion. The dry clutch is loosened 100% then tightened back 2.5 turns on each dry clutch.

The Y axis continues to jump from midpoint to the extremities even under light loading forward and aft on the stick, sometimes becoming stuck at the zero or 100% point on the axis scale. Originally I thought the issue was only in the predominant "Back" or towards zero direction, but since troubleshooting I have seen the axis experience problems in both linear directions of travel. no amount of recalibration is helping the gyroscope on the board understand the input. I am very frustrated but I appreciate the help. If you think there are any additional software or hardware steps I could try to get the stick working I would appreciate the feedback. Unfortunately the vendor I purchased this unit from last year has gone out of business during COVID so they are unable to process a technical support ticket for me.

Use this video as a guide to get to the Y axis sensor board, remove it and check behind it so there's no metal shards attached to the magnet. Clean them up, put the board back, plug to USB without installing the case, reset to Default, try the Y axis again. If it still spikes try moving around, push and pull the cables inside the base to find if there's any weak point; cleaning the contacts with some specific chemical would also help.
