T rudder set up

I have had trouble in the past when I tried to add rudder pedals to X Plane and a joystick because it couldn't install both the pedals and the yaw control on the stick. When I get my T rudder (shipped) I thought I should install the T rudder and calibrate first and then add the joystick and before I calibrate that again, turn off the YAW axis.....will that work for avoiding any double trouble with 2 YAW inputs?????
