Black Box Fails to properly register T-Rudder Pedals

Postby Enjoii32 » Sat Jan 29, 2022 8:40

Hi all,

I'm working to get a set of old T-Rudder (Mk III from what I can tell) pedals up I received from a friend and running, but I'm having issues with what I think is the Firmware and possibly even the Black (Orange) Box.

When I connected the T-Rudder pedals to the Orange Box, instead of the 'Pedals' light coming on, the 'Bus' light came on (flashing green). The Rudders registered as a Z-Axis (both sides as one), but don't seem to act properly in games (a light press = full motion.. Maybe a game problem, but I wanted to investigate since the 'Pedals' light was not lighting up.

This is what I see when I open the DeviceCfg program. Looking at the device it sees, I'm worried that it says 'Mk2' at the top. Under 'Test -> External Devices', the only things it has there is the Base and Stick. That makes me think that the wrong firmware ended up on the Black Box. From what I can tell, it should have instead (in addition?) the _BlackBox_TRudder_v2_09_0 version...

...But it's a moot point because whenever I hit 'Bootloader', I hear windows disconnect/reconnect a USB device (with all lights on the box going off), and opens the ZBootloader-2 to the following screen:

Disconnecting and reconnecting the device returns it to the previous state, same as the top photo. Looking at ZBootloader-2 after the fresh connect, I see this:

While I can select the 'VKBSim Gunfighter Modern Combat' line, both 'Start Boot' and 'Flash it!' (if I select Firmware) causes text to quickly flash and vanish, and I hear windows disconnect/reconnect a USB device. All lights on the box go off once this happens.

I'm at a complete loss. I've tried a new computer, I've tried killing all applications that were instructed, I've tried Safe Mode, I've literally disconnected every USB device save for a simply dell mouse on a fresh boot and ran everything in Admin, and I can't get any other outcomes out of this box.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

It's simple - on the first screenshot, read the text that says that the device is detected, but not in firmware mode. You just need to double-click on it to switch it to this mode.
In the extreme version of Zbootloader2, you do not need to place the file itself in the configurator folder, make a separate folder for it and run it from there, after closing the configurator.
Orange and black BBs differ only in the Leds numbering, but you should follow the rule - for black, use firmware with the letters MK2 in the name, for orange - without them.

Double clicking the device leaves it in the state of picture two, where Zbootloader sees nothing. I hear a windows disconnect/reconnect sound and the box is unresponsive until it is reconnected. I have attempted this on multiple machines and even booted in safe mode with minimal peripherals (dumb kbm)

Ok, so it was the computers (3!). My last ditch laptop had no issues interfacing. All problems solved!
