Questions for fallout9 re-MK3 Modern Combat Edition.

Postby Eddie » Fri Dec 04, 2020 4:19

I just ordered this MK3 with the "L" extension etc. Can you tell me what the preinstalled cams, springs etc. are? Number of springs [2? or 4?] and spring strength etc.? I have the MK3 WW2 Combat Edition also. I also have the Kosmosima grip, and I would like to know what files I need, to use all of my grips with the Modern Combat Edition base and black box. Can you provide me the proper file for each? One more thing fallout...are these Joysticks supposed to have some kind of a force feedback? I don't mean the vibrating type models like the MS Sidewinder FF etc. I mean some kind of a pushback, or extra pressure when flying combat sims. Sort of like feeling the weight of the aircraft as you pull out of a dive for example. Know what I mean? Thanks for all your help fallout9...take care...

Hi again Eddie and congrats on your new piece of constantly growing collection :)
Usually a new base comes with Avia-S cams installed and 1x#20 spring on each cam. As you got a base with a long extension you'll need to put some more harder springs - I recommend to get 2x#30 on each cam for beginning. See this guide about changing cams and springs.
I understand that you now have 2 bases, 2 Black Boxes and 3 grips (KG12, Kosmosima and MCG Pro). Keep in mind that each time you swap a grip on a base you'll have to reflash the Black Box connected to that base and calibrate afterwards. See these links for complete guides on how to flash a Black Box connected to a base with a KG12 grip, a Kosmosima grip and a MCG Pro grip (please note that there are different firmware versions for MCG Pro and MCG Pro with twist - so depending on which model you got choose its corresponding firmware).
There is no force feedback on these devices, but the Avia type cams are specifically designed to replicate air resistance - the resistance is increasing towards the end of stick's range.
Hope this covers all your questions, but please let me know if there's something that needs further clarification.

Thanks again fallout9. I'm going to give my brother the WW 2 Combat Edition with the KG 12 grip. As you know, I installed the Kosmosima grip on that unit, and changed the firmware as you instructed. You also gave me the proper firmware file to load. Could you give me the specific firmware file for each grip? I made the mistake of loading the wrong file before, and I want to make sure my brother and I, know exactly what each file number is. Thank you once again fallout9. I really appreciate your help. One more thing,..is VKB planning on a "twist adapter" for the KG 12 grip? Sure would be nice. take care my friend...

These are the firmware versions you should flash (x represents numbers that changes regularly, indicating the version of the firmware) :
- for KG12 grip: _BlackBox_MK2_GF_KG_vx_xx_x.vkb;
- for Kosmosima: _BlackBox_MK2_GF_SCG_vx_xx_x.vkb;
- for MCG Pro: _BlackBox_MK2_GF_MCG_PRO_vx_xx_x.vkb.

Unfortunately a twist solution for KG12 grip is not considered at the moment.

Exactly what I was looking for. One more thing fallout9, and then I'll quit bugging you. I'm looking for another hook type tool to change springs etc. The wire loop thingy that came with my unit got twisted and I ended up breaking it. VKB doesn't sell the loop, so I was womdering if you had any ideas? I'm sure other owners have found a simlilar type thingy somewhere. Can you help? Thanks fallout9...take care...

You should get another wire with the new device. The trick with that wire is to not let it get caught between the spring hook and the pin; just pull it a bit sideways when you settle the spring on the pin. But if you broke the new one too then you could use some steel wire, just wrap a considerable length at the ends around the ring and wear protection glasses when changing wires.
And please don't worry about bugging anyone here; this is the role of this forum - customers to get answers.
All the best!

I have the MCG Pro L with the twist feature. Is the firmware you provided for the stick the proper file for the "twist"?

The firmware for MCG with twist will look like this: _BlackBox_MK2_GF_MCG_PRO_Twist_vx_xx_x.vkb

I connected the new Modern Combat etc. using the new black box that came with it. I tried calibrating, and everything works except the "twist". I then tried it with the Kosmosima grip, flashed it etc. and the same thing happens. No twist feature. I can calibrate trigger buttons etc, but neither stick lets me "Yaw" No twist. I made sure I firmly pressed the sticks into the "L" extension to get a good contact. What could I be doing wrong? All calibration options work except the twist rudder function. Can you help with this one fallout9? Thanks good buddy...take care..

It's OK fallout9. I've got it calibrated properly. I don't know what I did the first time around, so I reset the calibrator and did it all over again. This time paying attention to what I was clicking on.lol. Thanks again my friend...take care..
