MCG Pro Twist Mk2 + T-Rudder pedals missing axis

Postby geocybrid » Thu Nov 05, 2020 23:32

Hi,

I've just received my t-rudder pedals and plugged them straight into the black box from the MCG Pro Twist Mk2. The info in the joy configurator seems to say "Rudder enabled", but rudder axis is not visible in the list. There were 8 axis on the joystick without rudder and with rudder there are still 8 (without any change). Rudder doesn't appear in external devices either.

When I plug rudder in its own black box and separate USB port, I get rudder function and was able to both upgrade firmware as well as use it in games. Unfortunately the games I'm trying to use it in - Mechwarrior and Star Wars Squadrons, don't support 3 game controllers (max 2 at a time_. I can of course use Joystick gremlin to combine the devices, but I was buying the rudder hoping that I could use it as a combined device with the stick not stand alone.

Is there something I can do to add Rudder to my joystick? Even if that means sacrificing one of the existing channels, that is better than a separate device.

Thank you,
Temo.

Check out 1 and 2 posts.
Your task is solved in stages:
1.we transfer the axes of the upper stick (from 1-3,1-4) to the second virtual controller (2-2,2-3) - after that it will always work like a button HAT
2.we transfer the axes of the left stick to its vacant place - they were on (1-5,1-6) - now (1-3,1-4) with the ability to switch the Axis-HAT mode by pressing the central button
3. we transfer the twist axis to the 5th axis - it was (1-7), now (1-5)
4.set up the 7th axis for operation from the pedal sensor
5.calibrate all axes
If you have any questions, show screenshots from your configurator.

Thanks for the response Ron61!

I'm still a bit confused though. I'm new to this stuff so apologies for being a bit slow :)

Point 1 - transfer top stick "away", i.e. from 1.X to 2.X. This is good - I don't use the analog version of that stick anyway. Let it be 8 way hat.
Point 2 - why do we need to transfer left stick to the spot of top stick? I like how left stick works and don't need this digital/analog switch. Let it be full-time analog like it is now.
Point 3 - can I transfer Twist to axis freed by the top stick directly?
Point 4 - Where do I set pedal axis? Is it in the base config? Which screen should I look at?

Thank you,
Temo.

I've attached my axis list screenshot. It looks like there is simply not enough room for the Rudder axis, because all 8 are already taken.
Even after bumping some of them to controller two, I can't add 9th axis for the rudder in this page. Is there some other location where I can do that?

Also, why does the trigger need two axis? Is Trigger 2D somehow? To me it looks like a button basically.

OK, I found a solution and posting it for others' benefit...

The throttle does not appear to be and "external device" at all.
Once you free up an axis in the first virtual controller by moving one of the hats to second virtual controller (as suggested by Ron61), all you have to do is to set input of one of the freed up axis with D_MARS input type.

Now, I learned this by looking at the throttle connected to a separate black box. That device had a strange "generic device" in the global configuration, which I copied to mine (see image below), but not sure if this was strictly necessary, because that device doesn't seem to have any axis.

To sum up: both twist axis as well as rudder pedals work for me now. The analog/digital switchable top hat had to be downgraded to digital only to free couple of axis, but this is what I actually wanted, because this gave me an extra button as well as proper hat switch. Left micro-stick is still analog, break level works and of course joystick works too.

Once again - thanks to Ron61!

And the top HAT stopped working due to incorrect setting of these values? :) .
Be careful in the settings, here every number must be correct. And it is these values that must be duplicated in the POVs settings - then everything will work correctly. There should not be any additional Generic devices. Base and grip only.

If you have an MCG Pro grip, then the trigger is also an axis. And it also needs to be calibrated for the Safe, Armed, Fire1, Fire2 modes to work properly. Look in the Profile-Axes-Axes2Buttons tab to see if the Enable MCG Pro trigger checkbox is checked to activate these modes. If you see (for some reason 100% sure) there are values 255,255, 0 - you need to calibrate. How? We read the manual.
