MCG Pro w/Twist and Pedal Questions

Postby Senescent » Wed Aug 19, 2020 8:09

Hello,

I've recently received a Gunfighter Mk.III with an MCG stick and T-Rudder Mk.IV pedals. I'm trying to do a couple of things and I'm a bit confused. I'll outline them below.

The first thing I'm trying to do is get the pedals working on the same black box as the Gunfighter. I currently have them hooked up on two separate black boxes and they're working fine. I've updated the firmware and calibrated them both. However, when I hook them up together on the same black box the pedals don't get recognized and they're not listed in the VKBDevCfg application. I've locked the twist axis on my stick and I've read something about disabling that axis to make room for the pedals but I'm not sure how to do that.

The second thing I'd like to do is set up virtual toe brakes. It seems like there are numerous ways to accomplish this and I'm not sure which way would be best. Is there an objectively superior way to set this up?

I tried finding answers for both of these questions on my own but every thread I found was unsolved or difficult to follow. The hardware itself seems great so I'm excited to get everything set up properly.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I appreciate the help. I actually read through that thread before making this one. That was one of the examples that I mentioned that I can't fully decipher. As mentioned in my original post, I see that I need to remove an axis to make room for the pedals but I don't understand how to do that within the software. I've tried unchecking the "En" and "Vs" fields but that didn't work. That thread also said to move one of the HATs to the 10th and 11th axis but when I try to increase them it just resets to 8.

I'm not sure how to proceed from here.

Edit - I also forgot to mention that I tried hooking my pedals up to the black box the Gunfighter came with by itself and it still didn't show up in the software. Would doing this axis removal thing fix that as well?

If you only want to use the rudders (no virtual brakes) it's really easy: just flash the latest firmware for your MCG Pro WITHOUT <Twist> in its name. After flashing just plug your rudders in the same BB with the MCG Pro grip and calibrate all axes (including rudders). This way you don't have to modify anything through software.
But if you need virtual brakes you'll have to get rid of one of the ministick axes, which will become the virtual brakes. There are several ways to achieve that if you'll do a search on the forum, here's one good example with explanations.

Thank you for the information. I followed your directions and flashed the latest MCG Pro firmware without twist. The joystick seems to be working fine but I still cannot get the program to detect the pedals when I plug them in. Here's what my screen looks like.

What can I do to fix this? I've tried every combination I can think of on both black boxes. I was really hoping to hook everything into a single black box to keep everything tidy.

Looking at your screenshot I could tell that neither your rudders nor one of the ministicks aren't calibrated. Please follow this guide to calibrate all the axes on your grip; also, during the calibration include the rudders too.

Thank you for this. I had actually already watched that video but I think I finally discovered where all of the confusion was coming from. I was expecting the pedals to appear in the device list along with the Gunfighter at the top of the window. I didn't realize plugging them into the same black box would make the pedals function as the Gunfighter device. So I think I've finally got that working!

However, now I've come across another issue. I hooked up my 200mm extension arm and set everything up on my UCM mount today. The stick was working fine initially but I unplugged the black box when I was messing with my pedals and when I plugged it back in the number 2 light was flashing red. I tried to calibrate it but the joysticks weren't working. I looked it up and I found someone saying the grip may not be properly seated so I took everything apart and hooked it back up again. Like before, it initially worked fine until I unplugged it again and now it's doing the same thing.

Do you know what could be causing this? I planned on unplugging my setup when not in use and scooting the mount to the edge of my desk.

Edit - I think I may have fixed the red light issue. I noticed that the extension was twisting slightly so I reseated it and tighten the screw harder than I did previously. Hopefully it's secure enough now and that issue doesn't come back up. Sadly I've now come across something else. With my previous setup using two black boxes, the secondary trigger on my MCG Pro was recognized as a toggle when in its upper position. Now putting it in the upper position doesn't toggle anything but lowering it and squeezing it is recognized as a button press. Is this change caused by using a single black box? I went ahead and tried calibrating everything again and that didn't solve it.
