That’s how it’s supposed to be. And don’t worry about covering it, there were no reports about any issues coming from it.

Please see this video, especially this part where is explained that you have to press the Master Mode ministick to switch to axes mode during calibration.

Follow this guide for flashing and calibrating and just ignore the ministick on the grip (grip is different, but base is the same). There's no reason not to update the firmware, the latest versions are more complete.

You said 'assign buttons', but the device has only 1 axis. Maybe you're trying to bind it in game to digital input (buttons), instead of analog (axis)? Check this video for clarification.

Exactly what I'm saying - it's not from the device. The joystick is Windows based so it's stuck to seeing and handling a max number of 128 buttons. If it's happening only in 2 airplanes/modules from your collection it seems pretty obvious that the issue is game/those specific modules related. Especially if there's no input in the tester of the native software when you plug your joystick in.

How about VKBDevCfg? Does it sees it in the device list?

All Gladiator NXT modules could get inter-connected as they're part of the same line. TECS is also coming with other modules that will get inter-connected. But yes, definitely - you will be able to use the Gladiator NXT base and grip with the TECS or with any other VKB product.
