I don't think there is real reason for it to be identical to the right hand. Both hands have different missions when using HOSAS. Right is mostly used for angular DOF and Fire control (primary and secondary fire, missile lock and launch, targeting system) while left hand usually has movement binding...

I play SC HOSAS. No pedals, they are not needed at all for space sims. With double Twist you get full control over de 6DOF. I don't agree with people saying that twist interfere in your other axis movement. I can play several hours with Dual stick (both with twist) and don't accidentally activate Z ...
