I now removed my MCGU from its Gunfighter MK3 Base and put the SCG Grip with the Conversion Kit on it. Yes, a few times actually, but I never got it to recognize the Grip.

As you suggested I have tried putting the SCG/Kosmosima Grip on the Gunfighter base again (and I have a lot of times before). I made sure it's all the way in and the fasteners were tight as well.
